EN 360 Personal Protective Equipment - Against Falling from Height - Retractable Type Fall Arresters

In the EN 360 standard, which is a European standard, the requirements provided by the manufacturer for retractable type fall arresters are explained and test methods are presented. This standard also specifies the marking, the information provided by the manufacturer and the packaging features. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 360 Personal protective equipment - Against falling from height - Retractable type fall arresters.

Retractable type fall arresters in accordance with the aforementioned standard, when combined with the full body seat belt described in the EN 361 standard, are subsystems that constitute one of the fall arrest systems within the scope of the EN 363 standard. The requirements for fall arresters are included in the EN 353-1 and EN 353-2 standards, and the requirements for energy absorbers in the EN 355 standard.

The retractable lanyards contain a lanyard that joins the full body harness and are a secure fixation device. It is available in various lengths. It retracts by being directed by a spring mechanism. In the event of a fall, a braking component causes the drum to lock up and stop the fall as short a distance as possible.

As part of dynamic performance tests, retractable cords are subjected to a drop test similar to that used for standard cords. A solid test mass of 100 kg is used to measure the stopping distance and stopping force. The drop height for this test was fixed at 600 mm regardless of the total length of the equipment.

Other tests are also carried out for mechanical equipment to ensure that they are not adversely affected by environmental conditions. The equipment is conditioned for at least 50 hours at a temperature of 85 degrees and relative humidity of 2 percent, and at least 30 hours at minus 2 degrees, and the locking function is controlled by reducing a mass of at least 5 kg.

Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from all sectors with its wide range of testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies for years, is used against falling from heights within the scope of EN 360 personal protective equipment within the framework of glove testing services, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment. It also provides retractable type fall arrest testing services.
