EN 355 Personal Protective Equipment - Against Falling from Height - Energy Absorbers

EN 355 Personal Protective Equipment - Against Falling from Height - Energy Absorbers

In the European standard EN 355, the requirements for energy absorbers against falling from height are explained and test methods are presented. This standard also specifies the marking and the information provided by the manufacturer. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 355 personal protective equipment - Against falling from height - Energy absorbers.

EN 355 Personal Protective Equipment - Against Falling from Height - Energy Absorbers

Energy absorbers in accordance with the said standard are used as elements or components integrated into or in combination with a lanyard, an anchor line or a full body harness. Combinations of an energy absorber and a rope, when combined with the full body harness described in the EN 361 standard, subsystems that form one of the fall arrest systems covered by the EN 363 standard is happening. Requirements for fall arresters are contained in EN 353-1, EN 353-2 and EN 360 standards.

This standard covers lanyards intended to be used to attach the attachment point of the full body harness to a suitable fixing device. The cord contains a shock absorbing element that aims to reduce the force applied to the wearer to gradually stop the fall.

Shock absorbing cords are subjected to a drop test to evaluate the performance of the rope for its ability to stop a fall within a maximum distance while keeping the force at a suitable maximum.

In addition, all energy absorbers are subjected to tensile tests. Energy absorbers are subject to 15kN pulling force. In order for the tensile strength of the product to exceed the force specified in the standard, tensile forces are applied for at least three minutes.

To determine the minimum resistance of metallic components used in fall protection equipment to environmental corrosion, in particular rust, they are subjected to neutral salt spray testing.

Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from all sectors with its wide range of testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies for years, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of glove testing services, energy used against falling from heights within the scope of EN 355 personal protective equipment. It also provides absorbers testing services.
