EN ISO 11611 Protective Clothing - Used in Welding and Related Processes

EN ISO 11611 Protective Clothing - Used in Welding and Related Processes

The EN ISO 11611 standard, published by the International Standards Institute (ISO), describes the minimum basic safety requirements and test methods for protective clothing, including headgear, aprons, sleeves and leggings designed to protect the body of workers, including the head and feet, and that must be worn during welding. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN ISO 11611 Protective clothing - Used in welding and related processes.

EN ISO 11611 Protective Clothing - Used in Welding and Related Processes

This standard applies only to the protection of the head and feet, it does not contain requirements for foot, hand, face and eye protection.

These types of protective clothing are designed to protect workers against small splashes of molten metal, short contact time with flame, and heat from an electric arc used for welding and related processes. It also minimizes the risk of short circuit electric shock.

An important point here is that for adequate protection against the risks welders may be exposed to, personal protective equipment under other international standards should also be used.

A guide for the selection of welder clothing for different welding activities is included in the standard appendix.

The performance of protective clothing may deteriorate over time during use or storage. This situation can only be demonstrated by the tests to be applied. The main situations that cause such performance losses are:

  • Cleaning, maintenance or disinfecting operations
  • Exposure to visible or ultraviolet radiation
  • Exposure to high or low temperatures or changing temperatures
  • Chemical exposure
  • Exposure to high humidity
  • Exposure to biological agents such as bacteria, fungi, insects or other pests
  • Exposure to mechanical effects such as stretching, pressure, and strain
  • Exposure to contaminants such as dirt, oil, molten metal splashes
  • Exposure to wear and tear

Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from all sectors with its wide range of testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies for years, has a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment within the framework of body protective equipment testing services, EN ISO 11611 protective equipment used in welding and related processes also provides clothing testing services.
