The ASTM D6977-19 standard, developed by the American Test and Materials Association (ASTM), includes test methods for evaluating the performance and safety of polychloroprene rubber gloves used in medical examinations and diagnostic and treatment procedures.
This standard includes both hand-fitting gloves, double gloves and polychloroprene rubber examination gloves. This standard also covers packaged sterile or non-sterile or bulk non-sterile polychloroprene rubber examination gloves. The full name of this standard is as follows: ASTM D6977-19 Standard specification for polychloroprene examination gloves for medical application.
This specification is similar to the D3578 specification for rubber examination gloves (ASTM D3578-19 Standard specification for rubber examination gloves) and for medical nitrile examination gloves to the ASTM D6319-19 specification (ASTM D6319-19 Standard specification for nitrile examination gloves for medical application).
Such gloves are manufactured from any polychloroprene rubber compound, without talc on the inner and outer surfaces of the examination gloves, and with dimensions and physical properties in accordance with the specified requirements. Sterility, puncture, physical dimensions, tensile strength and ultimate elongation (before and after accelerated aging of gloves), powder-free residue and powder amount tests must be performed to evaluate compliance of these gloves with the specified requirements.
Polychloroprene, It is an artificial rubber type with natural rubber properties. Using this chemical compound, ergonomically designed gloves are produced using specific formers and provide superior fit, comfort, less hand fatigue and stress for the wearer. In addition, gloves made entirely of polychloroprene provide splash resistance against a wide range of chemicals. Its design and polymer thickness make it easy to don double gloves and make the wearer comfortable.
