ISO 9185 Protective Clothing - Evaluation of Materials' Resistance to Molten Metal Splash

ISO 9185 Protective Clothing - Evaluation of Materials' Resistance to Molten Metal Splash

In the ISO 9185 standard published by the International Standards Institute (ISO), a method for evaluating the heat penetration resistance of materials intended for use in clothing to protect against large molten metal splashes is presented. This standard provides specific procedures for evaluating the effects of splashes of molten aluminum, molten cryolite, molten copper, molten iron, and molten soft steel. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN ISO 9185 Protective clothing - Evaluation of the resistance of materials against molten metal splash.

ISO 9185 Protective Clothing - Evaluation of Materials' Resistance to Molten Metal Splash

The principle of the test method described in the ISO 9185 standard is applied to a wider range of hot melt materials than those specified in special procedures, provided that appropriate measures are applied to protect workers. To date, the ISO 9185 standard, together with the EN 373 Protective clothing - Assessment of the resistance of materials to molten metal entrapment, has been successfully used for materials used in the manufacture of clothing to protect against large molten metal splashes. These test methods determine performance levels in terms of the mass of iron or aluminum splashed into test materials without damaging the heat sensor film.

The test method presented in this international standard is different from the ISO 9150 standard, which evaluates the protective performance of materials intended to be produced as protective clothing for welding activities.

The molten metal splash index mentioned in the ISO 9185 standard is the figure equal to the minimum mass of molten metal that causes damage to the PVC sensor film.

In many countries, legal regulations and standards contain technical parameters that protective clothing should have in order to properly protect employees. One of the most important dangers, especially for those working in foundries, is the criteria that evaluate the material's resistance to molten metal splashes. In this respect, EN ISO 9185 standard, which is a European standard, is very important. has a function. The level of protection for the test method described here is given by the amount of molten metal that supports the tissue without damaging the membrane PVC reference simulating human skin.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides testing services for the demanding enterprises, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff, to evaluate the resistance of ISO 9185 protective clothing materials against molten metal splashes.
