ISO 12127 Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Determination of Contact Heat Transfer Through Protective Clothing or Component Materials

ISO 12127 Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Determination of Contact Heat Transfer Through Protective Clothing or Component Materials

The ISO 12127 standard published by the International Standards Institute (ISO) consists of two parts. In the ISO 12127-1 standard, a test method for determining contact heat conduction is provided. This part of the standard applies to protective clothing, including hand guards, and component materials intended to protect against high contact temperatures. This test method is limited to contact temperatures between 100-500 degrees.

ISO 12127 Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Determination of Contact Heat Transfer Through Protective Clothing or Component Materials

In the ISO 12127-2 standard, a test method designed to evaluate the heat transfer and behavior of materials used for protective clothing is presented, especially when it comes into contact with high temperature metal particles under operating conditions. The results obtained with this method allow comparing the behavior of different materials under certain conditions. Otherwise, it does not allow inferences on contact with large quantities of molten cast iron or other metal splashes and prediction of the behavior of such garments under industrial conditions.

This series of standards has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following titles:

  • EN ISO 12127-1 Protective clothing against heat and flame - Determination of contact heat transfer in the materials that make up protective clothing or clothing - Part 1: Contact heat generated by heating the cylinder
  • EN ISO 12127-2 Heat and flame resistant clothing - Determination of contact heat transfer in protective clothing and related material - Part 2: Method of using contact heat generated by dropping small cylinders

Protective clothing designed to protect against heat and flame is exposed to direct contact with hot substances or hot surfaces, depending on the operating activities. The variety of such contact conditions makes it difficult to assess high temperature hazards.

Likewise, protective clothing designed to protect welders is exposed to high temperature particles produced in the welding environment. Avoid splashes of molten metal and other hot particles with protective clothing. The variety of conditions it may come into contact with makes it difficult to evaluate the dangers that may arise under usage conditions.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides testing services for the determination of contact heat transfer by means of ISO 12127 Heat and flame protection clothing - protective clothing or component materials within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff.
