EN ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protective Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements (Former EN 531)

EN ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protective Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements (Former EN 531)

In the ISO 11612 standard published by the International Standards Institute (ISO), the performance requirements for protective clothing made of flexible materials designed to protect the worker's body, except hands, from heat and flame are explained and test methods are presented. Leggings, headgear and boots are the leading protective clothing covered by this standard for the protection of the head and feet of the employees. However, with regard to headgear, visor and respiratory equipment requirements are not covered by this standard. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN ISO 11612 Protective clothing - Protective clothing against heat and flame - Minimum performance requirements. This standard replaces the previously published EN 531 standard.

EN ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protective Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements (Former EN 531)

The performance requirements in the ISO 11612 standard apply to garments worn for various purposes and with limited flame propagation properties and protective clothing where the worker is exposed to radiation or convective.

Many of the hazards covered by this international standard have the following performance levels:

  • Level 1: To indicate low risk exposure
  • Level 2: To indicate moderate risk exposure
  • Level 3: To indicate high risk exposure
  • Level 4: To indicate exposure to radiant heat

The level of personal protection to be provided is based on the result of the risk assessment to be made, and some comments on risk assessment are in the standard annex .

The head, face, hands and feet may need to be protected with appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure complete protection against exposure to heat and flame. Likewise, appropriate respiratory protection may be required in some cases.

The role of protective clothing in temperature and humidity management is important to most industry workers. Heat storage and moisture absorption in heat and flame protective clothing affects the heat stress of the user.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides EN ISO 11612 Protective clothing - Protective clothing against heat and flame - Minimum performance testing services, within the framework of laboratory services of materials with a trained and expert staff, to enterprises that demand it.
