EN 14126 Protective Clothing - Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Protective Clothing Against Infectious Agents

The EN 14126 standard, a European standard, provides a test method for determining the performance of protective clothing against infectious agents. In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 14126 Protective clothing - Against pathogenic organisms - Performance characteristics and test methods.

EN 14126 Protective Clothing - Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Protective Clothing Against Infectious Agents

This standard describes the requirements and test methods for reusable and limited use protective clothing that protect against infectious agents (pathogenic organisms). The type of protective clothing requested should be based on the type and severity of the expected level of protection.

Clothing used by surgical teams or gowns worn by patients to prevent cross contamination during surgical interventions are not covered by this standard.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) counts bacteria, viruses, fungi, other microorganisms and their associated toxins as biological agents. These adversely affect human health, from allergic reactions to fatal conditions. It is very common in the natural environment and needs minimal resources to survive, becoming a potential hazard in the environment.

Workers are infected by infectious agents, toxins cause allergic reactions. These are generally effective from skin, inhalation, ingestion, animal bites, cuts and similar sources. The EN 14126 standard is a standard that determines whether protective clothing provides the necessary protection against infectious substances. This standard describes requirements for materials, seams and clothing. It also includes five test methods to determine the protection class against various specific biological hazards:

  • Resistance to the penetration of blood and body fluids using synthetic blood
  • Resistance to penetration by blood-borne pathogens using bacteriophage
  • Resistance to penetration of biologically contaminated fluids
  • Penetration resistance of biologically contaminated liquid aerosols
  • Resistance to penetration by biologically contaminated solid particles

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides performance requirements and testing services for EN 14126 Protective clothing - protective clothing against infectious agents, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff, to the demanding enterprises.
