AATCC 42 Water Resistance - Impact Penetration Test

AATCC 42 Water Resistance - Impact Penetration Test

The AATCC 42 standard, designed by the American Textile Chemists and Colorists Association (AATCC), determines the water resistance properties of textile fabrics and explains the impact penetration test management. The full name of this standard is as follows: AATCC 42 Water resistance - Impact penetration test.

AATCC 42 Water Resistance - Impact Penetration Test

The standard applies to any textile fabric with or without a water-resistant or water-repellent finish. This test determines the resistance of fabrics against water ingress by impact and determines the possible resistance of these fabrics to rainwater ingress. In general, this standard is applied to determine the resistance of protective clothing fabrics against water. The main factors affecting the results obtained in the tests are the water repellency properties of the fibers and yarns, the texture of the fabric and the finishing processes applied.

A volume of water is sprayed onto a taut surface of a test sample supported by a weighed blotter during the tests. The blotter paper is then weighed to determine the water penetration and the test sample is classified by determining the amount of water absorbed.

Another standard designed for the same purpose is the ISO 18695 standard (ISO 18695 Textile - Determination of resistance to water infiltration - Impact penetration test) published by the International Standards Organization (ISO). In this standard, the resistance of any textile fabric with or without a water-resistant or water-repellent finish is measured against water ingress with low impact. The test method presented in this standard is the most suitable test method for medium to loose fabrics where the rain shower test (ISO 9865) or the rain test (ISO 22958) is very severe.

Briefly, the impact penetration test is performed to determine the resistance of a textile product against water leakage in contact with the sprayed water. Usually textiles such as aprons and curtainsIt is applied to til products. This test is also required for 510K applications to the FDA.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides AATCC 42 Water resistance, impact penetration testing services to the demanding enterprises within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff.
