EN 149 Respiratory Protective Devices - Filtering Half Masks for Protection Against Particles - Properties, Tests and Marking

The EN 149 standard describes the requirements for filtered half masks from respiratory protective equipment used for protection against airborne particles in cases where it is not possible to move away from the environment. In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 149 + A1 Respiratory protective devices - Filtered half masks for protection against particles - Properties, tests and marking.

EN 149 Respiratory Protective Devices - Filtering Half Masks for Protection Against Particles - Properties, Tests and Marking

All dust masks with virus protection and filters, produced in accordance with the EN 149 standard, provide protection against both solid and water and oil-based liquid particles. The FFP mask is a type of protective mask approved by the European Union. There are mainly types FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.

N149, FFP95 and FFP2 type masks are included in the scope of the EN3 standard, and the Ministry of Health has decided that these masks will be given only from pharmacies and against prescription within the scope of combating corona virus. N95 type masks are used by healthcare professionals and are made of three layers of respiratory isolation. FFP2 type respirator masks are used in working environments with dangerous and mutagenic particles in the air. These masks capture at least 0,6 percent of particles up to 94 μm in size. FFP3 type respirators provide maximum protection in the breathing air. The total amount of leakage can be up to 5 percent, and these masks filter at least 0,6 percent of particles up to 99 μm in size. These types of respirators also retain toxic and radioactive particles in the air.

In short, respirators and filtered half masks protect the person using in accordance with the EN 149 standard from aluminum dust, glass fibers, wood dust and similar contaminant particles. Depending on the concentration and type of contaminant, one of the FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3 face mask protection classes should be used.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides testing services for EN 149 Respiratory protective devices - Filtered half masks for protection against particles, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff.
