EN 169 Personal Eye Protection - Filters for Welding and Related Techniques - Permeability Properties and Recommended Use

EN 169 Personal Eye Protection - Filters for Welding and Related Techniques - Permeability Properties and Recommended Use

In the EN 169 standard, which is a European standard, scale numbers and permeability requirements are explained and test methods are presented for filters aiming to protect operators who perform works involving welding, brazing, air arc gouging and plasma jet cutting. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 169 Personal eye protection - Filters for welding and related techniques - Permeability properties and recommended use.

This standard also includes requirements for even-scale numbered source filters. Other applicable requirements for this type of filter are detailed in the EN 166 standard (EN 166 Personal eye protection - Properties). Numbering table for filters and explanations for marking ocular and frames are also found in the EN 166 standard. The requirements for mounting frames and assemblies are included in the EN 175 standard (EN 175 Personnel guards - Eye and face protection equipment during welding and similar operations).

When determining workplace hazards, it is important to consider and distinguish the type, extent, duration, probability, and severity of the incident on the employee. Possible hazards include mechanical, optical, liquid splash, thermal, biological, and electrical hazards. In most cases, several hazards can coexist at any given time. For example, welding activities involve optical, mechanical and thermal hazards.

Meanwhile, besides the level of protection provided, the design combined with comfort plays an important role in choosing the right eye protection. Not all protective glasses are the same. People's faces also differ significantly. For this reason, size and shape are important to ensure the best fit and level of protection.

Our organization, which has been trying to support enterprises from all sectors with its wide range of testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies for years, has been working with EN 169 kIt also provides testing services for permeability properties of filters for welding within the scope of occupational eye protection.
