EN 14476 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Test for Evaluation of Virucidal Activity in the Medical Field - Test Method and Requirements

Minimum requirements for virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics in a European standard EN 14476 is described and a test method is provided. This standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in our country with the following title: EN 14476 + A2 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Virus killing quantitative suspension test for chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in medicine - Test method and requirements (phase 2, step 1).

EN 14476 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Test for Evaluation of Virucidal Activity in the Medical Field - Test Method and Requirements

The standard specifies minimum requirements and provides a test method for the fungicidal or yeasticidal activity of chemical disinfectant and antiseptic products that when diluted with hard water or in the case of ready-to-use products form a homogeneous and physically stable preparation. In this test method, products are tested only at a concentration of 80 percent or less.

The EN 14476 standard applies to products used in the medical field such as hygienic hand scrub, hygienic hand washing, instrument disinfection by immersion, surface disinfection by wiping, spraying, flooding or other means, and textile disinfection. This standard applies to areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated. Such indications arise in patient care. For example, in hospitals, healthcare facilities, dental treatment centers, school clinics, kindergartens, nursing homes, workplaces and homes. This standard does not include services such as laundry and kitchen that provide products directly to patients.

Meanwhile, the EN 14885 standard explains the relationship of various tests with each other and offers detailed recommendations (TS EN 14885 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Application of European standards for chemical disinfectants and antiseptics).

Many businesses also request durability tests along with EN 14476 testing to determine antimicrobial performance against viruses when exposed to environmental conditions. These tests usually use serum, blood or hard water.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides quantitative suspension test services for the evaluation of EN 14476 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics, virucidal activities in the medical field, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff.
