The EN ISO 22568-1 standard, published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the requirements and test methods for metallic toes intended to function as components of footwear, a personal protective equipment. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN ISO 22568-1 Foot and leg protectors - Requirements and test methods for shoe parts - Metallic coatings.
The EN ISO 22568-1 standard, which is a fundamental European standard, is intended to function as components of personal protective equipment footwear, such as the requirements contained in EN ISO 20345, EN ISO 20346 and EN ISO 20347.
The three named standards relate to safety, protective and professional footwear, which define the performance and required properties of the shoe. Upon the implementation of these standards, all national standards regarding safety fingertips were withdrawn without allowing companies that manufacture these products to demonstrate the performance of their products. The EN ISO 22568-1 standard is designed to allow manufacturers to show the performance level of the toes before they are placed in the shoe.
Metal toe tips in accordance with the requirements in this standard are suitable components of personal protective equipment.
The inner metal toe tip is a metallic toe tip intended to be placed under the upper part of the shoe to protect against mechanical impacts and compression. External fingertips have been used in the past, but are not used today and are covered by the standard not included.
The basic requirements for metallic coatings of shoes in the EN ISO 22568-1 standard are listed as follows: general, finish, dimensions, inner length, flange width, impact resistance, compression resistance and corrosion resistance.
The test methods in this standard are: determination of dimensions (inner metal nose tip length, flange width) determination of impact resistance, determination of compression resistance and determination of corrosion resistance.
