In the EN ISO 20345 standard published by the International Standards Institute (ISO), basic and optional requirements for safety shoes used for general purposes are explained and test methods are presented. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN ISO 20345 Personal protective equipment - Safety footwear.
This standard includes, for example, mechanical risks, slip resistance, thermal risks and ergonomic behavior patterns. Special risks are covered by complementary business standards. For example, shoes for firefighters, electrically insulated shoes, chainsaw protection shoes, chemical protection shoes, molten metal splash protection shoes and motorcycle riders safety shoes.
It is the responsibility of employers to protect employees' feet against dangers and to keep employees safe by providing safety shoes suitable for the activity in working environments. Safety shoes must meet regulatory principles and standards and be suitable for activities and employees.
The EN ISO 20345 standard, which is a basic European standard, contains stricter minimum requirements than previous versions and states that all safety shoes must have toe protection. In addition, these shoes must have 200 joule impact resistance and 15KN compression value.
All safety shoes produced after July 2013 must meet this standard. However, shoes produced before this date continue to be used.
